A brief post

from sunny, dusty San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, in the middle of the driest desert in the world. They have nice thermal baths, too.

Simplicity, lost

Interesting article at Brighthand on how Palm has lost their way with their current generation of handhelds.

Fantasy President?

As an antidote to the gathering spectre of a dubious war, I had an overwhelming desire last night to watch the West Wing, the brilliant hollywood fantasy of a principled, liberal presidency. Robin Cook's speech to the House of Commons

"Iraq probably has no weapons of mass destruction in their commonly understood form.... why is it now so urgent that we destroy a miltary capacity that has been there for 20 years, and which we helped to create?"

Vacation

Posting has been slow lately, due partly to preparations for a long-overdue vacation to the Atacame desert in Chile and partly because I'm finding I have to work twice as hard in the two weeks before I leave. Apparently, I'm not the only one to feel this way, at least according to this Gallup poll. Pathetic, I say.

Red Alert

If the terror threat warning status is Red, and you're in New Jersey you'd best be staying home, according to the "state anti-terror czar."
